David Hogarth was born and raised in Red Deer, Alberta. He began undergraduate studies in chemical biomedical engineering, followed by medical school at the University of Alberta. He became interested in urology on the recommendation of several mentors, and was drawn to urology due to the diversity of surgery and innovative applications of technology within the field. Extracurricular interests include international medical mission work, exploring the local mountains on skis, snowshoes, or a mountain bike, as well as skydiving & wingsuiting.
